Already on Day 5 of the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. It’s been fun so far, and that’s what it is meant to be. Fun. I do hope it is a bit thought-provoking as we draw closer to Christmas.
Today we have a MTT, a Multi-Troop Transport. If you can’t you tell from this picture what it is, don’t worry. I had to look it up on Brickipedia to find out for certain.
MTT were used to carry Battle Droids to their destinations. When I think about this, I consider what it must have been like for Mary on the journey to Bethlehem.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. —Luke 2:4-5 (ESV)
The decree had gone out for all to be registered in the Roman Empire. To do so, you went to your town to register. Joseph was of the line and house of David, so he went to Bethlehem to register with Mary. Their journey was at least seventy miles.
One can deduce that Mary was in the final trimester when Joseph and her left for Bethlehem. Mary probably would have made this journey on the back of a donkey, exposed to the elements, and in considerable pain.
My wife and I are currently in our fourth pregnancy, so I can imagine a bit of the anguish and pain that both Mary and Joseph were going through on this journey. As a husband, I think of Joseph. Joseph was probably doing everything in his power to make Mary comfortable, but nothing would do until the journey ended and Jesus was born.
Day after day, Mary journeyed on the back of a donkey. For how many days, one cannot know. There are little details given to the journey, but one can assume the journey took longer than normal because of Mary’s pregnancy. Probably a factor why they couldn’t find a place to stay when they arrived.
Donkeys are used for heavy transport in going from place to place. They aren’t as revered as horses, they go about their business as a pack animal. The MTT is a forgettable ship, but it does its job in transporting droids to and from destinations.
When I get to Heaven, there will be many things I will want to see that took place in the Bible. A sort of highlight video. The Nativity will be one of those things, but also the journey to Bethlehem.
